Direct Support Professional (DSP) – PRN / Per Diem
Position Summary:
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) – PRN/Per Diem provides direct care, supervision, and support to individuals with autism and behavioral needs in a residential group home setting. This flexible, as-needed role requires staff to be available for day, evening, and overnight shifts, with a minimum commitment of 1 shift per month. The DSP supports individuals in maintaining their health, safety, independence, and overall quality of life.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct support and supervision to individuals in accordance with their Individual Support Plan (ISP) and Behavior Support Plan (BSP)
- Support individuals with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing/showering, toileting, dressing, grooming, and personal hygiene.
- Assist with brief changes and incontinence care as needed.
- Implement positive behavior support strategies and respond appropriately to behavioral challenges.
- Maintain a safe, structured, and respectful environment at all times.
- Accurately document shift activities, behaviors, and any incidents
- Assist with meal preparation, light housekeeping, and daily routines.
- Administer medications in accordance with agency policy (if certified)
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding care and concerns.
- Follow all agency policies, state regulations, and confidentiality standards.
Shift Requirements:
- Must be available to work Day, Evening, and/or Awake Overnight shifts
- Minimum requirement: at least one shift per month
- Ability to remain awake, alert, and attentive during overnight shifts
Behavioral Support Expectations:
- Use person-centered and trauma-informed approaches.
- Remain calm, patient, and consistent when addressing challenging behaviors.
- Identify triggers and utilize de-escalation techniques.
- Promote dignity, respect, and independence.
Qualifications:
- NADSP, High school diploma or GED required
- Experience working with individuals with autism and/or behavioral needs preferred
- Comfortable assisting with hands-on personal care, including showering and brief changes
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently and adapt to varying schedules
- Must meet all background check and state compliance requirements
Work Environment:
- Residential group home setting
